Festival times and cousins get together. Yeah, it’s the best feeling, right? At night, an exchange of horror stories we hear from others is a lifetime memory. One story that I want to share gave me chills down my spine when I heard it.
On one new moon night(Amavasya), a man drove his car to go from one town to another(in Darjeeling). Yeah, he was alone and had no choice but to follow the path passed through many villages. It was his first time on this route so he started Google Maps for directions at night without much light. He was listening to music on the radio for entertainment and not falling asleep. It’s been a long journey, and It’s only 2 AM.
Suddenly radio news announced that shocked the driver. on the radio, the jockey said that it’s been some days since we heard the stories of some paranormal activities on the road, 30 km from Darjeeling, near Dow Hill, Kurseong. Yes, it appears as a peaceful hamlet, but it hides the stories of haunted mysterious places. At this time it’s known as “Death Road” especially between 2 to 4 AM.
A terrified driver full of sweat and numb minded driving his car slowly. seeing his mobile and Google Maps showing a 4-hour journey, but the more terrifying thing is right now it’s showing Dow Hill. A driver put a heavy leg on the lever and accelerated the speed of the car without thinking to see outside the window. Outside is only dark forests and narrow hilly curvy roads. He started Hanuman Chalisa and prayed that just to get me out of Dow Hills, god. Within 15 minutes of driving fast, he realized he passed the Dow Hills area and now it was another village. He relaxed a bit, drank water from his bottle, and slowed down the car.
Out of nowhere, a low-pitched creepy voice came near to his ear, something like hereeeeeee… and a driver got jumped scared on his seat and looked out of the window. No one was there, only dark forests. He did not feel good and again accelerated his speed like a maniac not knowing whether he was going in the right direction or not! Without his knowing, he crashed his car with a side road tree and bang, the engine’s off. He was thinking whether to get out of the car or not! His anxiety skyrocketed and didn’t know what to do next.
At some distance, he saw the lady holding the lamp walking through the road. He gained hope and ran in a hurry toward her for his life. He said, hey lady I want help! A lady turned towards him and asked what’s your name young man? A driver was so amazed at her beauty that he forgot what she asked and constantly stared at her without blinking. A driver thought what a beautiful girl, she looked like this in a lamp then how she looked in full light! A lady asked again, what’s your name? Now he got out of his fantasies, answered his name, and asked for help. She understood his situation and said, now is not the time that you can hang around on this road man. A driver said yes madam you are right but I had no choice and now I am stuck.
A lady thought for some time and offered to come with her. She said her house was nearby and he could stay for the night. He had no better choice than to accept her offer and to make himself safe for the whole night. He went with her to her house. He asked whether anyone else lived with the lady! A lady said, no it’s only her. A driver asked other routine questions to make conversation with her and to lower his anxiety level. They reached after 15 minutes of walk, and she offered water to him and made him relax. He was now a bit calm and felt safe in her house. After some time she said she would be back in minutes to get some food for him. He asked whether it was safe for her to go alone! she said it’s ok I lived here for years and know everything about my safety. You are safe here. She smiled and went. A driver sat on the sofa and checked his mobile. He started to think about the radio and its announcement earlier. He started the radio again and out of his shock, it was the same news again but with more clarity.
After hearing that he stood up with eyes full of terror and full of sweat like his whole body turned white. He could not believe what he just heard. On the radio, it’s told that breaking news, a car had crashed ahead some km from Dow Hills. It’s been heard that a driver lost his control over his steering and the car crashed into a tree. A driver has been missing since this incident and no one noticed him near villages. After hearing it, a driver’s throat was dry and thought what the hell is going on with him? He switched off the radio on his phone and sat again on the sofa.
After one minute, a driver with constantly pounding heartbeats and high blood pressure heard the radio disturbance noise again from his phone, he wanted to off the radio but couldn’t do it. Suddenly a low-pitched creepy voice came from the radio. hereeeeeee… He could not process what he heard and realized it was the same voice as the lady who offered him help. He threw the mobile and wanted to run faster than light but in no time the lady was standing behind him and said in his ear, don’t go, come hereeeeeee… “Welcome to Death Road”. He shouted so loud but no one was there to listen and after a minute it was silence again.
